The purpose of training<\/h2>\n\n
The slippery driving training increases a young driver\u2019s motivation to choose a driving speed corresponding to the road and weather conditions and drive at a safe separation and lateral distance from other cars. The course illustrates the differences of braking and stopping distances on different road surfaces and at different speeds.<\/p>\n\n
The student will understand that the vehicle will not stop immediately and the length of the braking distance is affected by the speed as well as the road surface. After passing the course, the driver will realise how much time and distance it takes to stop a vehicle. Speed<\/h2>\n\n
In order to cope with difficult road and weather conditions, the most important thing is to be able to choose the right driving speed!<\/p>\n\n
The Traffic Act sets out the maximum permitted driving speeds. But they are, as they say, the maximum. In fact, when choosing a speed, the driver must take into account his driving experience, road conditions, vehicle condition, weather conditions, traffic density and other factors.<\/p>\n\n
The speed limits are:<\/p>\n\n
\n\t
90 kilometres per hour on roads outside built-up areas; <\/li>\n\t
50 kilometres per hour in built-up areas;<\/li>\n\t
10\u201325 kilometres per hour on an ice road or 40\u201370 kilometres per hour if the thickness of ice is up to 50 centimetres. The speed limit is 70 kilometres per hour if the thickness of the ice is more than 50 centimetres;<\/li>\n\t
50 kilometres per hour upon drawing;<\/li>\n\t
25 kilometres per hour upon haulage of towed machinery;<\/li>\n\t
90 kilometres per hour upon special carriage<\/li>\n\t
20 kilometres per hour in calm traffic areas. In close proximity to a pedestrian, vehicles may drive at the speed of the pedestrian;<\/li>\n\t
60 kilometres per hour for buses if there are passengers standing or sitting sideways to the direction of the traffic in the bus;<\/li>\n\t
45 kilometres per hour for mopeds;<\/li>\n\t
40 kilometres per hour for mobile machinery;<\/li>\n\t
25 kilometres per hour for personal light electric vehicles and light mopeds;<\/li>\n\t

Braking- and deceleration techniques<\/h2>\n\n
In today's vehicles, we are used to all kinds of driver's aids, the best known is ABS - the anti-lock braking system. Older vehicles do not have it. The ABS may also stop working due to a technical failure. <\/p>\n\n
In the event of an unexpected and extreme braking situation our goal is to stop the car as quickly as possible. If you can't stop the car before the obstacle then try to drive past it. If that does not work as well, it is important that the collision speed is as low as possible.<\/p>\n\n
In case of emergency, it is instinctive to brake hard. Braking hard and also pressing the clutch down is good because all four wheels of the vehicle get the same force at the same time and brake 100%. Pressing down clutch is important to prevent engine to shut down. When engine shuts down also power steering, brake booster, electronic stability control and some cases ABS shuts down too.<\/p>\n\n
If the vehicle is older and there is no modern electronics in it, then in case of emergency braking, all the wheels of the vehicle will be blocked and the vehicle will become unsteerable. Then it is important that the driver must keep the clutch pressed down and use intermittent braking technique. In this case wheels can roll between braking and car is steerable.<\/p>\n\n
Pressing down the clutch is also important to avoid weight distribution to the front of the car due to engine braking. If the back of the car is lighter it may easily skid.
